"Crash Proof Your Diet"
It's always interesting to sit down with someone and hear what their philosophies are about how to lose weight.
You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I hear...
To be honest though, I don't hold any of these crazy notions against anyone because I know most people have been misled and are just poking around in the dark looking for a solution that actually works.
One mistake, however, that you may be making over and over is what you are choosing as healthy snacks.
You may be on to the whole salad or veggies and protein thing for your meals, but that doesn't necessarily ensure you will lose weight or maintain a lean physique... believe it or not, most people's snacks are setting them up to fail and they don't even know it.
They're fooled by slick marketing.
Here's what I mean.
The foods listed below are the TOP 10 Snacks that you may think are healthy for you, but are nothing more than sugar and inflammation creators in disguise.
- Wheat Thins (inflammatory and high GI)
- Most fruit flavored yogurts (loaded with sugar)
- "100 Calorie" snack packs (100 empty calories...)
- Premade fruit smoothies (all sugar, low fiber)
- Vitamin Water (very little vitamins, but lots of sugar)
- Slim Fast shakes (35+ grams of sugar - yikes!)
- Energy drinks (disrupts adrenal glands natural production)
- Rice cakes (super high glycemic - spikes blood sugar)
- Most protein bars (high in sugar & fillers)
- Granola & Nutrition bars (low fiber, high in sugars)
- Mini pretzels (I know I only said 10, but I had to add this one too... it's all processed wheat and an awful snack)
As you can see I called a few companies out, but then again I'm sure they know their products aren't meant for weight loss. Their products may actually be useful in some respects, but if your goal is body transformation and healthy living you can cross them off your list.
Keep in mind most of these snacks listed above are loaded with hidden sugars that will cause you to crash an hour or so later when your temporary high wears off...
I'm looking forward to reading what everyone has to say about their favorite alternatives or other snack foods people should stay away from!

Once I discovered Greek yogurt, I never went back! I just add cinnamon and some nuts and it's much better than the fruit kinds.
I stopped feeding my kids yogurt but have found one that has no high fructose corn syrup or red dye which were my main concerns with it. So now I get it occassionally.
We prefer to make our own fruit smoothies- they taste so much better!
I didn't know that about Rice Cakes. We love rice cakes. My kids prefer the apple cinnamon ones while I like the plain ones. They aren't allowed to have any of the other kinds.
We like granola bars and I wish I knew how to make them myself to make them healthier.
I make my own smoothies and I don't do dairy anymore I can't I shouldsay.
This time of year My fav. snack is cherry tomaotes or watermelon
I like to use plain yogurt and drain it to make "cream cheese". I also use plain yogurt and mix in our own fresh fruit and for making dips instead of sour cream.
I'm not adverse to eating sugar, but when I do, I add it myself. I do not buy many (if any) products that contain a lot of sweeteners and additives.
Many mornings breakfast is a smoothie or fruit shake we make ourselves.
Sorry about bursting your bubble on rice cakes, but they have very little nutritional value and they are up there on the glycemic index.
Keep them coming!
Things that guarantee a downward spiral on my efforts to eat healthy: bread (ANY kind), cake (any kind), ice cream or frozen custard (any kind), peanut butter (well, if it's mixed with chocolate or Nutella, anyway), cheddar pretzels, cookies.
Yogurt, Activa? Fat Free, Vanilla - good or bad?
Also, English Muffin. Multigrain or whole wheat?
I'm sure I'll think of more, but those for now. Oh, and soy milk?
Greek yogurt has some great "live cultures" in it, but you have to watch out for a lot of these yogurts that have fruit syrups and sugars added to them.
Just check out the label and make sure it doesn't have any sugar added to it... It should also be very low in grams of sugar when you look under carbohydrates.
