Heat advisory for parents and grandparents

Here in Oklahoma we are on day 20 of heat over 100 degrees. People and pets are dying. In the last two days, a little boy who was 8-years-old, and a 3-year-old in separate instances got locked in cars, and died. (The 8-year-old locked himself in the trunk playing around and couldn't be found until it was too late.)

As July and August are facing us head on, I thought it would be a good idea to remind parents to keep their vehicles locked, and simply know where their children are. Children need to be watched especially in this kind of heat.

I hate to turn the news on lately. People are drowning or dying of the heat. God, I wish it would rain.

When my grandson was 2 he climbed into the back seat of the car and it took 10 minutes for them to find him as he was laying on the floor. He's 15 now but with permanent brain damage. No one thought he could open the car door by himself. Tragic mistake.

Well, that is rather awful. My kids are not allowed anywhere near the car unless I'm with them. I watch them like a hawk

We have to lock all our vehicles at all times if we didn't the first chance our 3 year got he'd be in the car.

The thing that bothers me most are the parents who leave a child in a car while they run into a store "for just a couple of minutes." They somehow forget that the temp in the car can get up to 140 in just minutes. Every year, four or five times, we hear of children dying from that.
