Today's issue is a selection of the many stories I have found showing the results arising from the efforts of the Theocratic Right to shape the world as they wish it. I want to be clear that this is only a selection. I could have picked 10 other stories. Because many of these efforts are either esoteric assaults on regulatory agencies, or programs at the state level, and they get little national discussion, I don't think most people quite realize how pervasive these efforts have been. This all gets down to voting. All of us who want our country to choose a compassionate and life-affirming course must not only vote, we must take on the responsibility of counseling and assisting others of like mind to vote. We have to take this very seriously. -- Stephan A. Schwartz, www.schwartzreport.net

Seafood Fraud Study By Oceana Reveals Widespread Mislabeling Nationwide
Yet further evidence as to what is happening to our food supply, as the result of the Right's now generation long drive to gut the regulatory agencies whose task it is to protect us. Lack of regulation produced this and, I must say, this one was worse than I thought possible. Click through to download the .pdf of the entire report, and to see the charts.
CAREY POLIS - The Huffington Post
Oceana, an international ocean advocacy group, has released a report on national seafood fraud [pdf], and the results are disconcerting. The report, which is one of the largest on seafood fraud to date, found that one-third of fish was mislabeled. Oceana performed DNA testing from 2010 to 2012 on 1,215 fish samples from 674 retail outlets in 21 states. In this study, Oceana found seafood fraud everywhere it tested, with rates hitting as high as 52 percent in Southern California. Here are the full results: The United States is the second largest seafood-consuming country worldwide (China is number one), and more than 90 percent of the seafood consumed is imported. Less than 1 percent is tested specifically for fraud. Red snapper and tuna had the highest mislabeling rate across the U.S., at 87 and 59 percent, respectively. Out of the 46 fish types tested, 27 were found ...

Montana Legislator Introduces Bill to Give Corporations Right to Vote
Here is today's assault on our democracy. More and more this has become and issue of individuals. We as individuals are electing these people. They are the measure of our shadow.
DAVID FERGUSON - The Raw Story
A Montana Republican state legislator has introduced a bill that would give corporations the right to vote in municipal elections. According to Think Progress, Rep. Steve Lavin (R-Kalispell) has introduced Montana House Bill No. 486, which would grant to 'a firm, partnership, company or corporation†that owns property within a district the right to vote as a citizen of that district. Echoing former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s 2011 assertion that 'corporations are people, too, my friend,†the law, if enacted, would empower a representative of each company in the district to cast a vote in the company’s interest. The representative would be required to present proof of the company’s registration with the secretary of state and that they are that organization’s designee. This legislation would go beyond even the allowances made for corporations and companies to funnel unlimited dark money into elections as per ...

House Republicans strip LGBT, Native American protections from Violence Against Women Act
The poison of the Theocratic Right, spills out through our society.
DAVID FERGUSON - The Raw Story
Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have answered the Senate’s proposal to renew the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) by presenting their own version of the bill, but with protections of LGBT Americans taken out and a loophole that could exempt Native Americans victims of domestic abuse. According to Think Progress, the House bill could derail renewal of the VAWA, killing any momentum the Senate bill had gathered since its proposal on Feb. 12. Huffington Post provided a link to the bill and section-by-section analysis, which found the bill lacking any mention of key protections included in the Senate version of the renewal. The House bill removes 'sexual orientation†and 'gender identity†from 'the list of underserved populations who face barriers to accessing victim services, thereby disqualifying LGBT victims from a related grant program,†wrote Huffington’s Jennifer Bendery. As a result, funds could potentially be witheld ...

Indiana Republicans Advance Transvaginal Ultrasound Bill
The War on Women continues. Increasingly I think the underlying dynamic behind the anti-abortion forces, since they protect zygotes, but care nothing for children, arises from a form of racism. The fear that Whites are being knocked from their special status, and outnumbered, and that part of the solution is more white babies. Hence the anti-choice movement, the anti-contraception movement, and the drive to compel even rape and incest victims to bear children conceived under those circumstances.
SAHIL KAPUR - TPM
Indiana Republicans are advancing legislation that would require women to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound prior to an abortion, the latest in a string of efforts by state GOP lawmakers to actively discourage women from terminating their pregnancies. The provision is tucked inside Senate Bill 371, introduced by State Sen. Travis Holdman (R), which has passed a committee. Although the legislation doesn’t specifically say transvaginal ultrasound, its criteria would effectively require it, according to the abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America. John Stutsman, an obstetrician-gynecologist and professor of medicine at Indiana University, confirmed to the Indianapolis Star that a transvaginal probe would be required. Holdman told the Indy Star that such measures are justified to protect 'another human life.†Indiana’s House, Senate and governor’s mansion are all controlled by Republicans. Abortion rights advocates were livid. 'As we’ve seen in states across the country, this legislation has ...

Yes, but why do we have today a plutocracy that claims to be a democracy? Corporatism is supported by both parties. The politicians whom we chose are bought by uber-rich. Ronald Reagan used rhetoric about "Government being the problem," while serving the corporations interests, whose agenda was to transfer wealth, investment, industry and jobs abroad. The domestic economy and standard of living have declined and this continues. We are falling behind other developed. Conservatively we now rank 27th among developed nations. Reagan over-ruled Congress in approving a $4 billion contract to transfer our nuclear technology to China, for example. Both parties have served the rich and increased the transfer of wealth to the "1%" , and Republican right today has lied without shame to serve the most greedy interests. If we have soft fascist state today, this will persist if enough people allow themselves to be persuaded to vote against policies that can foster the rebuilding of the US. We have the government we deserve.
The Tea Party was funded by the 1%;the Theocratic Right, the same. The corporate media is owned by the same interests. The Red states - Blue states division is used to divide and manipulate the people.
The young and the middle class are increasingly experiencing the results of the US' self-destructive policies. It is their and our government, such as we choose to make it.
